Nathan Nokes

Teacher

Nathan Nokes has been teaching piano for over a decade. As an instructor, he has worked with a wide variety of ages and skill levels, teaching everyone from young beginners to the young at heart. He strongly believes that, no matter one’s skill level, music is a form of play and should be accessible to all! Nathan is a classically-trained musician, yet he is also quite skilled at teaching a variety of different styles.

While he always aims to keep lessons fun and interactive, Nathan has quite the educational background. He holds a Doctorate in Musical Arts from The University of Texas at Austin, a Master’s in Music from the Hartt School at the University of Hartford, and Bachelor’s in Music in Composition from Washington State University.

As a composer, he has written music for concert stage, installation-performance works and multimedia installations. Works of his have been performed and recorded by ensembles such as Tuscan Symphony Orchestra, Ulysses European Ensemble, and Invoke Quartet. His string quartet and electronics work “Alone Together” received the 2020 Matera Intermedia Festival Award in Italy. Nathan’s music and sound installations have been featured in a number of festivals including American Composers Orchestra’s EarShot 2022, Oh My Ears Festival, Fusebox Festival, and Festival of Contemporary Artists in Music.

Nathan is obviously very passionate about music, and he hopes to convey that enthusiasm to his students by meeting each one where they are and helping them to discover their own unique path.
