Joe Wittman

Teacher

Joe Wittman is a guitarist, writer of songs and occasional singer based in NYC. After graduating from the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music in 2013 he promptly moved to New York to seek out his favorite musicians and there his education took on a new form. After a few years of gigging around town, learning from and playing with some of his idols, Wittman started studying with James Chirillo, guitarist and composer of Benny Goodman fame. Chirillo not only taught a rigorous curriculum of plectrum guitar technique but also Helen Jordan’s famed musicianship course. Well equipped with years of focused studies and professional experience on the bandstand, he happily shares his knowledge and joy of music through teaching.

Joe teaches guitar, ukulele, banjo, electric bass, improvisation, songwriting, musicianship, ear training and music theory. He works with students and their families to find the best lesson plan for each situation and finds joy in all genres of music.

You can find him playing around town with his own band, the Joe Wittman trio, at some of NYC’s finest music venues like Mezzrow, Smalls, Midnight Blue and many others. You can also check out his three albums he recorded as a leader, “Night Out”, “Trio Works Lume”, and “Trio Works Sol”."
