Cheyenne McCoy is a versatile artist and educator who defines her career by variety and curiosity. She has taught music for over ten years, and her greatest joy is creating a collaborative and comfortable learning environment. She is particularly interested in finding what makes students excited about music, and will pursue that to no end! Before relocating to Brooklyn, she led two youth orchestras, a chamber music program, and the rock band program at El Sistema Oklahoma, a music school for OKCPS students. At University of Arts & Sciences Oklahoma, she taught college courses on music theory, orchestral strings for education majors, and the history of rock and roll.

Cheyenne’s interests in music span almost ten centuries of practice and repertoire. As principal of viola da gamba, cello section leader, and general manager for the Oklahoma Baroque Orchestra, she participates in and facilitates the craft of historically informed performance. She also plays vielle in the Orchestra's Tavern & Trills Consort, exploring the improvisatory traditions of music from the Medieval to the Baroque periods, and plays cello in the Orchestra's string quartet, devoted to researching 19th century performance practice. As a commercial musician, Cheyenne has played bass guitar for several nationally touring bands, and has played cello with the Painted Sky Opera Company, Symphony of Northwest Arkansas, and Tulsa Symphony Orchestra. She holds a masters degree in cello performance from Oklahoma City University.

Originally from Northwest Arkansas, she grew up entrenched in American folk music and bluegrass. Her first instruments were guitar and fiddle, and she picked up the banjo from her grandmother. She now lives in Brooklyn with her partner Jack, sixteen houseplants, and twenty-two musical instruments.
